CS Njeru Presides Over Ground Braking of Construction od Biogas Dom
Zachariah Mwangi Njeru EGH, CS, Ministry Of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, presided over the groundbreaking of the construction of a biogas dome at Gatuanyaga Secondary School in Kieni constituency, Nyeri county.
The dome is one of 3No. units that will be implemented in three learning institutions under the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation program funded by the @AfDB_Group and Government of Kenya.
The CS emphasized that water is a human right and not a privilege. He commended the Agency for embracing technology in the implementation of water and sanitation interventions.
The CS recognized the efforts of students and staff of Gatuanyaga Secondary School towards achieving environmental sustainability through their “Adopt a Tree” Initiative.
CEO @PhilipGithii MBS, emphasized that the Agency’s commitment to address climate change was the key driving factor in this initiative. He outlined the project’s significance, while @tanawwda Chairperson Mr. James Wanyaga expressed gratitude to the Ministry for their support.
The CS later inspected the Mathira Community Water Project, which included the inspection of a 225-m3 water storage tank at Ihwagi Primary School as well as a beneficiary of the project.
Hon. Njeru acknowledged the project’s community-driven origins: two intakes and eight water storage tanks. He emphasized the importance of local ownership of projects for sustainability and commended the collaborative efforts between the community and the Agency.
He added that community involvement signifies goodwill and responsible management. Beyond sanitation initiatives, the CS advocated for sewer projects as a holistic solution to the water crisis.
