CS Oparanya Visits MTRH Shamiri Sacco

The Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, FCPA, EGH, yesterday visited Shamiri Sacco.

Shamiri Sacco draws membership from employees of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and AMPATH.

Hon. Oparanya who was accompanied by Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Hon. Jonathan Bii said good management is the core structure of Sacco movement success.

He called on Shamiri leadership to continue upholding transparent management culture in the affairs of the Sacco.

The CS emphasized that members’ education is one efficient vehicle to empower members on all businesses of the society. “This is one chance available to members for exercising property rights in the society.

He said it is the principle of co-operatives for members to know their rights,” Oparanya said.

To achieve sound management, directors should be trained on co-operative management. Operanya said the ministry will soon roll out Sacco curriculum for directors of cooperatives countrywide.

He said what makes cooperatives fail is paying dividends out of losses. He advised the Shamiri leadership to stay clear from that direction and continuously safeguard members’ interests.

MTRH CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa said Shamiri Sacco is the financial pillar for Hospital Staff which provides affordable rates compared to commercial banks.

He said its tremendous growth is attributed to sound management practices.

While making his remarks, the Governor H.E. Hon. Jonathan Bii emphasized on members education especially during these tough economic times.

Present during the CS visit were; Shamiri Sacco Chairman Mr. Robert Rotich and CEO Shamiri Sacco Ms.Pamela Makiya.

The delegation also included; Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr. Eddyson Nyale, CEC Sports and Culture Eng. Lucy Ngendo Njoroge,CEC Agriculture Dr.Edward Sawe, CEC Lands and Urban Planning Dr. Janet Kosgei, CO Trade & Investment Victorian Kapkiyai , and CO Co- operatives & Enterprise Ruth Samoei among other dignitaries.
