The DCI athletics team raised the Directorate’s flag high in the 2024 National Police Service Cross Country Championship held at Ngong Race Course on Friday, January 19, 2024.

The event brought together some of the world’s biggest names in athletics from 14 teams across the National Police Service.

In the Men’s 10km event, DCI bagged the third spot behind Rift Valley Region and the General Service Unit who dominated the race to take the 1st and the 2nd positions respectively.

World Silver Medalist in the 10,000m Daniel Simiu Ebenyo stamped his authority in the most fashioned way when he stormed the race right from the start to the finish clocking 29 minutes and 48 seconds. DCI’s Robert Kiprop scooped a brave bronze medal behind Edwin Kiplagat of the Administration Police Service.

In the 10km event women category, World Cross Country Champion Beatrice Chebet displayed her prowess with unmatched stamina and resilience to take the highly coveted 1st position. DCI’s Viginia Nyambura led the team into a magnificent second place ahead of the Eastern Region team. The detective later charged to a hard-battled 4th place in the mixed 4 by 2km relay.

Representing the Director of Criminal Investigation was Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau Chief Mr John Onyango, who congratulated the teams for their brave performances.

On his part, the Director Personnel at DCI Mr Francis Ndiema urged the team to gear up for a promising season of athletics saying that the exercise was just but the first of many wins to come.

The event which saw a strong team selected to represent the National Police Service in the upcoming national and international events, was presided over by the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Service Mr Douglas Kanja, who commended all the participants for the sportsmanship and track discipline, while calling upon them to train even harder for high podiums in the international arena.

Flanking him was the Commandant General Service Unit Mr Eliud Lagat, SAIG and other senior officers.
