Deliberations on the CooperativesBill, 2024
The Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism, it’s counterpart Committee at the National Assembly and other key stakeholders today held a consultative meeting with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Entreprises (MSMEs)Development Hon.Simon Chelugui to deliberate on the contents of the Cooperatives Bill,2024 before its introduction in Parliament.
The purpose of the Bill is to establish a legal framework that supports a sustainable and competitive cooperative sector for socio-economic development within a devolved governance system. The specific objectives include the promotion, registration, regulation, and supervision of cooperatives, setting uniform norms and standards, defining responsibilities of national and county governments, determining areas of joint jurisdiction, establishing an inter-governmental relations framework, and creating a system for consultation and cooperation among counties.
