Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat Concludes Three-Day Tour of Police Stations in Rift Valley
Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat, is wrapping up a three-day tour of police stations across West Pokot, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties. The tour, which began on December 5, aimed at assessing police operations and enhancing service delivery, saw Mr. Lagat make several impromptu visits to various stations to gain a first-hand understanding of working conditions for officers.
Among the key stops were Kapenguria Police Station in West Pokot, Makutano Police Post in Moi’s Bridge, and Kamukunji Police Station in Uasin Gishu. Yesterday, Mr. Lagat also handed over a new police vehicle to Metkei Police Station in Elgeyo Marakwet County, and inspected the newly constructed facilities at the station. He continued his inspection in Nandi County, where he visited Meteitei Police Station in Tinderet, checking the progress of its ongoing construction.
Mr. Lagat’s preference for unscheduled visits is part of his approach to get an authentic feel of the day-to-day operations of police stations and the challenges officers face. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, to transform police stations into centers of excellence in service delivery and police operations.
During his tour, Mr. Lagat closely examined various sections of the police stations, including the Report Office, Armoury, Cells, and the Child Protection Unit/Gender Desk. His discussions with officers highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of service delivery, prioritizing mental health support, and promoting professionalism and teamwork within the police force.
Accompanying the Deputy Inspector General during the tour were the KPS Director of Logistics, Mr. Peter Ndung’u, Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG), and Mr. Reuben Kemboi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). Together, they emphasized the importance of a multi-agency approach in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement in the region.
Mr. Lagat’s visit underscores the Kenya Police Service’s ongoing efforts to enhance police operations and ensure that officers are well-equipped and supported in their duty to serve the public.
