In a recent statement, Eng. Silas Kinoti, Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), underscored the crucial role played by the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) in advancing urban mobility and contributing to the engineering community in Kenya. His remarks come as anticipation builds for the 31st IEK International Convention, set to take place from October 29th to November 1st at the Pride Inn Paradise Resort in Mombasa.

Kinoti praised the IEK Council for its significant role in shaping Kenya’s urban infrastructure, highlighting the vital contributions of IEK President Shammah Kiteme and her team. He acknowledged their support in promoting inclusive infrastructure as Kenya rapidly urbanizes, reinforcing the importance of effective and sustainable urban mobility solutions.

“The IEK performs a fundamental function in advising the government on professional matters, especially as the country seeks to enhance its Engineering Index,” Kinoti said. “This index is a key indicator of national development, and our collaboration with IEK is instrumental in achieving these goals.”

As KURA continues to focus on strengthening its partnerships with key institutions, Kinoti emphasized the authority’s commitment to advancing the engineering profession and contributing to the country’s infrastructure development. This, he noted, is essential for bolstering economic transformation and ensuring that Kenya’s urban environments are equipped to meet future challenges.

The IEK International Convention will serve as a platform for discussing these critical issues and exploring new strategies for advancing engineering practices in Kenya.
