DNA Results Confirm Identities of 21 Endarasha Academy Fire Victims
Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor has confirmed that through DNA testing, all the 21 victims of the tragic fire at Endarasha Academy have been identified.Â
In an address to the media at the Naromoru Hospital in Nyeri, Oduor announced the completion of identification, adding that they successfully matched the DNA results of the victims.
“We have the pleasure to announce that we have received the results of the DNA of 21 Endarasha Academy victims, and all of them have been identified,” Oduor told journalists.
Identification was an important procedure meant to give the grieving families closure, who for days, waited to confirm their loved ones.
The fire razed parts of the school and sent several students to their death, an occurrence that threw the community into mourning.
Oduor further added that operations were underway to reach out to the victims’ families: “We are in the process of contacting the parents, and we have a team of DCI officers and chancellors to help us in this process.”
They have also engaged the DCI officers to ensure smooth communication with the families of the affected and address any legal issues that may be occurring pertaining to the identification process.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that David Kinyua, who owns Endarasha Academy, prepared a statement on school plans related to the remaining students.Â
The school, as it intends to resume, Kinyua assured the parents that efforts were underway to make things normal for the pupils.
“We have planned how the pupils shall be given everything, from the mattress, box, uniform, and shoes, so the children shall come the way they left,” he said while asserting the commitment of the school to provide the returning students with what they will need.
The inferno at Endarasha Academy has raised safety concern in schools across the region.
The investigations are being done by the authorities to determine the cause of the fire and where preliminary reports suggest electric faults contributed to the disaster.Â
The government has also vowed to probe into ensuring fire safety in schools as part of prevention against such tragedies.
