Don’t Politicize The Finance Bill – Humans Rights Activists To Politicians
Uasin Gishu Center for Human Rights and Democracy (CHRD) programs officer Kipkorir Ng’etich has warned politicians against politicizing the 2023 Financial Bill.
Ng’etich says politicians should instead be an eye opener and shed light on Kenyans on what is contained in the bill.
“We want to call upon the political class to stop politicizing the Finance Bill 2023 but rather educate Kenyans to understand the need and importance of the bill.,” said Ng’etich.
Ng’etich said that the collection of taxes is the only way to finance and stimulate development projects in the country.
“Kenyan people are not aware that it is good for us to depend on ourselves on matters of development rather than depending so much on money that is given as a loan from development partners,” noted Kipkorir.
Uasin Gishu Center for Human Rights and Democracy (CHRD) programs officer noted that despite Kenyans feeling the pinch of the tough economic times, the country is on the right track to achieve its development goals only if the taxes will be handled in the right way.
“It is true that it might be painful to some extent but at the end of the day, there will be good results if the money will be managed well,” Kipkorir added.
Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has been at the forefront to reject the bill saying that Kenyans will be overburdened even more if the bill is assented to law.
The opposition leader recently gave ten demands to President Ruto citing that if the demands are not met they will lead Kenyans back to the streets to protest against it.
