Dr. Ekrah Ndung’u Emphasizes the Power of Attitude
Dr. Ekrah Ndung’u, Chairperson of the Kenya National Association of Private Colleges, addressed attendees at a recent seminar, highlighting the critical role of attitude in personal and professional development.
In her impactful speech, Dr. Ndung’u asserted, “Your attitude is the one thing you have complete control over. You can’t always control your circumstances, but you can always control your attitude.” She emphasized that while external situations may be unpredictable, the response to those situations lies entirely within an individual’s control.
Dr. Ndung’u further pointed out the importance of managing responses to the attitudes of others. “You cannot control the attitude of the people you encounter daily, but you can control how you respond to them,” she noted. She cautioned against allowing negative external opinions to influence personal outlooks, stating, “Most people are wired to make others look bad and themselves look good; the majority tell 40% lies and 60% truth.”
Her message was clear: dependence on others’ opinions can lead to a reactive and diminished self-esteem. Instead, she encouraged attendees to adopt a proactive mindset. “Learn to LISTEN, SIEVE, VERIFY, but keep your ATTITUDE constant,” Dr. Ndung’u urged, underscoring the need for discernment in the face of external influences.
The event, attended by educators and industry leaders, fostered a vibrant discussion on the significance of mindset in navigating the challenges of the education sector. Dr. Ndung’u’s insights served as a powerful reminder of the autonomy individuals have over their attitudes and the profound impact this can have on their lives and careers.
