Dr. Paul Otuoma Spearheads Transformation of Busia Town’s Road Infrastructure
In a significant stride towards modernizing Busia town, the dedicated efforts of His Excellency Dr. Paul Otuoma, the County Governor, are swiftly materializing. The latest testament to this progress is the ambitious expansion project underway on the stretch between Amukura house and Customs in Busia town. This particular section, historically plagued by accidents exacerbated by heavy traffic congestion, is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul aimed at mitigating these challenges.
The expansion project entails widening the road by 3.5 meters on both sides, thereby creating a dedicated lane specifically tailored to accommodate transit trucks. This strategic intervention aims to alleviate congestion caused by trailer traffic, consequently enhancing the overall efficiency and safety of the road network.
The project specifications include overlaying the existing road surface with a 75mm thick layer of Dense Bitumen Macadam (DBM), followed by an additional 50mm layer of asphalt concrete. Furthermore, the contractor will undertake the construction of side drains along the road, integrating access culverts at strategic intervals to optimize water drainage and prevent flooding.
In addition to enhancing the physical infrastructure, the project will also prioritize safety measures. This includes the installation of comprehensive traffic signage and road marking, ensuring clear guidance for motorists and pedestrians alike, thereby fostering safe and efficient traffic flow throughout the expanded road network.
