Dr. Waqo Dulacha Ejersa Appointed New CEO of KEMSA

Dr. Waqo Dulacha Ejersa has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), succeeding Dr. Andrew Mulwa, who had been serving in an acting capacity since March 2023.

Dr. Ejersa brings a wealth of experience and expertise in public health and healthcare management to his new role.

Before his appointment, Dr. Ejersa served as the head of the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Diseases division within the Ministry of Health, where he played a pivotal role in health policy formulation and implementation at both national and international levels. With over 25 years of experience, he has been instrumental in developing and executing national strategies for various health programs, including malaria control and non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Ejersa holds Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Master of Public Health from the University of Melbourne. Currently pursuing a Master of Science in Strategic Planning from Edinburgh Business School, his academic credentials are complemented by a deep commitment to advancing healthcare delivery in Kenya.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ejersa has been recognized for his contributions to public health, receiving accolades such as the Order of Grand Warrior of Kenya. His leadership in financial management, strategic planning, and governance has enhanced transparency and efficiency in healthcare programs implementation, notably during his tenure as Head of the National Malaria Control Programme.

In response to his appointment, Chief Executive Officer of the National Land Commission, CHRP Kabale Tache Arero, congratulated Dr. Ejersa, expressing confidence in his ability to lead KEMSA into the future. Dr. Ejersa’s mandate includes guiding KEMSA towards improved service delivery and ensuring the availability of medical supplies across Kenya.
