EACC responds to withdrawal cases that has led to lose of Public Confidence
The Ethics and AntiCorruption Commission has today met with the oversite committee to know the extend to which the commission has discharged it’s mandate.
The committee sitting chaired by Hon, Gathoni Wamuchomba,Said the committee needed response on the corruption cases pending in court despite the government giving the commission a badget allocation of 3.8Billion in the 2022/2023 financial year to curb corruption in the country that is a National Menace.
” Fake academic certificates is becoming an international menace putting the country in the world map of corruption among other countries Kenya has been on the forefront of accessing fake documents that needs to be put into an end,”Said the chair.
Hon:Geoffrey Mulanya a committee member said the corruption menace is still within the house of EACC which needs to be investigated.
“As much as they are giving us the number of the cases they have handled,the corruption is still more, their staff are more corrupt than the people they are arresting,” He said.
The EACC also had to respond to the withdrawal cases of corruption that has led to lose of public confidence.
Sentiments made by Hon Gitinga Mukunji said , there is alot of politics involved and has lost public confidence in the institutions.
“The corruption cases that swell the country needs to be bought to books,
the commission is given the full mandate for them to deliver,they should review their conduct, and tell what really happens to the withdrawal cases,” Said Hon Mukunji.
According to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer EACC Abdi Mohamud the commission has a problem where money is stolen and hidden in other countries and they are limited due to billatoral agreement with some of the countries hence the commission is unable to block the money and retrieving it .
” We have many corruption cases that the commission has investigated and some officials bought to book,and the stolen money recoverd,the current public officials are almost few months in the office and if we find out any official stealing public funds will be bought to book like any other person,” said EACC Deputy CEO.
