The Suspect Mr Wilson Kibet who appeared before Resident Magistrate Rosemary Onkoba on Monday

Eldoret Law Courts Resident Magistrate Rosemary Onkoba Monday deferred the plea taken against Wilson Kibet, a suspect who sprayed a dangerous herbicide on a ten acres maize plantation in Soy Sub County, Uasin Gishu.
The Suspect was arrested last week and released on a cash bail of KSH 50,000.

Joseph Kipchirchir Terer, a prominent farmer in Uasin Gishu reported the matter at Eldoret Central police Station upon receiving the shocking news that has led to massive losses at his 10-acre Kimisto farm .
It is alleged that there were some differences between the person who leased him the land and a family member(brother) who wanted the land by force.

“As a farmer I did all that is necessary in maize farming until a few days ago when I was informed that the maize that was doing well had started wilting, followed by drying. I was told that someone visited the land at night and sprayed the plants with roundup chemicals leading to them drying,” said Terer.

“I don’t know what to do since in the 10 acres piece of land 70 percent of it has been destroyed. You cannot do that even to your enemy. I approximately used Sh 500,000 for the preparation, leasing, and planting of the maize,” he added.

The Suspect’s lawyer however notified the court that there was an active case and a court order before another magistrate over the said Kimsto farm.
Hon. Onkoba noted that by Consent Plea taking had been deferred to May 26th, 2023.
