Eldoret: BodaBoda Operators Want Fuel Prices Reduced
Bodaboda Operators in Eldoret town have called upon the government to lower fuel prices one week after the Energy and Petrol Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced new fuel prices.
According to Oscar Shikanga chairman of the Kesses bodaboda Sacco, Life has been hard for them since they acquired their motorbikes through loans and are expected to pay on at least 500 on a daily basis.
“Most of us are suffering because we are unable to pay our daily loan fees because most of these companies who loan motorbikes to us have now hiked the deposit money and also increased the amount of money to be paid daily,” he said
He also added that since EPRA announced new prices of fuel it has been a challenge for them to tell their customers to start paying new prices for their services because they might end up losing them to public service vehicles.
“If your customer is used to paying one hundred shillings and today you ask them to pay two hundred shillings it will be hard for them to pay that amount because of the current high cost of living in the country,” Shikanga added.
He further noted that there is increased cases of insecurity due to the high cost of living and a lot of youths are now opting to steal from people since they have no way of earning a living and sustaining themselves
“If you are not careful as for now you might end up losing your motorbike since most Kenyans are facing a hard time because of unemployment and are now looking for every way they can get money.” Said Shikanga.
They are now urging the Kenya Kwanza government to give them support and fulfill the promises they made to them before the 2022 general elections.
“It’s high time our president put in action the Bottom Up Agenda as he had promised us and also try to curb the harsh economy that is currently affecting us Kenyans.”he said.
