Eldoret: Canada and Finland Parents Want President Ruto to Intervene
Parents of the students who failed to travel abroad for further Studies at College and University in Canada and Finland want the president and other local leaders to intervene in the issue, which has so far escalated and led to the dropout of other students.
“I want to call upon all leaders from the County led by Oscar Sudi to come and intervene in this case.I also urge our beloved president William Ruto to intervene,” David Kosgei a resident from Kapseret said.
They blamed the County Government of Uasin Gishu for playing games with them by not hearing their cries.
“We went to the County government offices and met the deputy governor and he told us to write the refund letters and we did so , we wrote the letters and took them there which means that the money is there. ,” Eunice Chelagat said.
They further warned the County Government from distancing itself from the issue.
The County Government was the one who had an MOU with the Canadian government together with the Universities in Canada, and until now our children are at home we have been requesting our funds but the county is taking us right and left,” Kosgei added
The Parents now want the county government of Uasin Gishu to compensate them for the money, which they paid for their siblings to study abroad.
“The county was the one which was advertising the opportunity for our children to study abroad and they were shortlisted which meant that we need to look for money and we sell our land so that we can cater for the fees and accommodation for our children but they had never traveled to Finland, so we want the county to give us back our money,” Chelagat added.
They further added that they would not follow the Former Governor who is now the senator in the same County since they were able to pay the money until this year January.
“ I paid the money needed for my child to study Abroad in October last year and some of us finished paying the balance in January when the New Governor has already assumed office,” added Joseph Mutai
The students who were affected are now suffering from depression and are forced to do manual work to cater to their families.
“The Deputy Governor claimed that he paid fees to the universities and now the governor wants us to give up, know my parents are at home and I need to struggle for them to get their daily needs have been selling goats so that I can afford my fare to and from the Town,” said Ian Bett.
However, they do not want any meeting with the county government if they will not be refunded and warned that they would disrupt the Coming Devolution conference that will be hosted in the county next month.
