Eldoret National Polytechnic Women Encouraged to Undergo Cervical Cancer Screening
In a proactive effort to combat cervical cancer, Gynocare Hospital has launched a free cervical cancer screening initiative at Eldoret National Polytechnic, starting October 17. This initiative aims to raise awareness and encourage women to take charge of their health.
Stephen Ocheing Ochoro from Gynocare Hospital addressed students at the polytechnic, emphasizing the importance of early detection. “We want to encourage the ladies of Eldoret National Polytechnic to come out in large numbers and know their status. You may have cancer today, but you may not have any symptoms,” he stated.
Cervical cancer is a significant health issue in Kenya, ranking second among cancer-related deaths in women, following breast cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 5,200 new cases are diagnosed each year, resulting in around 3,700 deaths.
Ocheing highlighted the financial burden of cancer treatment, asserting that early screening can save lives and reduce treatment costs. For those unable to attend the screening event at the polytechnic, Gynocare Hospital offers free screening services at their facility located along Uganda Road, open daily from Monday to Sunday.
“We hope this initiative will empower women to prioritize their health and seek timely medical attention,” Ocheing added.
Women in the community are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to get screened and understand their health status better.
