Eldoret: Passengers Refusing to Pay Increased Fares
Various transport service providers in Eldoret town have cried foul after passengers refused the increased fares.
Bodaboda operators say they are facing hard times over the clients’ decline to their request for additional payment in an attempt to cope with new fuel prices.
“When you tell the client to add some money as an addition transport fee due to increased fuel prices, they don’t agree to say they are facing harsh economic time and that the court stopped the Finance Bill implementation,” one bodaboda operator said.
The outcry from the bodaboda operators has been backed up by the matatu operators and stakeholders who have said that they are being forced to retain previous charges despite the new fuel prices.
According to these operators and stakeholders in this sector, the slight attempt to increase charges is provoking the clients to walk away and thus forcing them to work on losses.
“We are only operating as a way of survival and as a result of lack of alternatives since we have families to provide for and other needs to cater for,” said a matatu driver.
The various operators in this sector in Eldoret town have called upon the government to consider lowering the fuel prices since the current price is subjecting them to losses.
This outcry resurfaces after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority of Kenya announced an increment in fuel prices with Petrol and diesel currently costing Ksh195.53, 179.67 respectively.
