Eldoret: Phone Snatchers Use Motorbikes to Flee
Youths in Uasin Gishu County have gotten into a life of crime, robbing people of their phones by using motorbikes in small groups during the day.
According to Peter Ong’are, a motorbike rider from Eldoret town, these youths for the past few days have been moving around town in groups using motorbikes causing commotion where they take advantage and snatch people’s phones while in the crowd.
“They go where people are and start screaming hence creating attention whereby people gather around them to see what is going on and that is where they take the phones from,” said Ong’are.
The thieves have been stealing during the day when people are many in town because at night they will not get the audience they need, added Ong’are.
Ong’are further mentioned that these youths are said to come from Langas where they are involved in selling illegal drugs
which shows how they are already criminals practicing illegal activities.
“The youths come from langas where they sell bhang to people,” said Ong’are.
The residents of Eldoret town have managed to capture one group as they were trying to steal phones, beating them and using them as an example to the other groups doing the same activity.
Police have further been notified about it and a notice has been issued stating that any group of youths seen in a motorbike together should be apprehended.
