Eldoret: Police Arrest Over 10 Youths From a Notorious Gang

Police in Uasin Gishu have arrested Over 10 youths from a notorious gang accused of extorting traders in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking to the press County Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the arrests were made in the Eldoret central business area following complaints from traders, members of the public, and human rights activists led by Kimutai Kirui.

According to police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, this follows a tip from the members of the public.

“Today’s arrests mark a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in Eldoret. In our operation we managed to arrest over ten suspects who are in our custody and will be taken to court Thursday morning and will be charged with different offenses,” he said.

The organized Barsuliek gang has allegedly been involved in various criminal activities including extortion, threats, cyberbullying, assault, and exerting control over strategic business premises in Eldoret for monetary gain.
He assured members of the public and the business community of their security.

“I want to urge the members of the public to report anyone harassing or extorting money from them and stern actions will be taken against them,” he added.

Eldoret-based Human Rights Activist Kimutai Kirui applauded the Police for their swift action.

“We commend the Eldoret police for their swift and decisive action in addressing the menace posed by this criminal gang, The arrest of these suspects is a step towards restoring peace and security in our community,” said the Human Rights Activist.
