Following a day of protests against the newly tabled finance bill in Parliament, residents of Eldoret have returned to their daily routines.

The demonstrations, which took place yesterday, saw impassioned responses from citizens regarding their concerns over the bill’s implications.

The bill, which garnered 205 votes in favor and 115 against among Members of Parliament, sparked widespread public outcry and prompted demonstrations across Eldoret town. Despite efforts by demonstrators, including youth activists, to voice their dissent peacefully, tensions occasionally flared between protestors and security forces.

“We love our security officers, but we appeal for restraint when dispersing protests,” expressed James Msafi, one of the demonstrators. “The government is meant to serve all citizens equally, and our actions are in defense of our rights. We urge adherence to the rule of law.”

Reflecting the sentiment of many young participants, Ian Bett emphasized the need for effective youth representation in government. “We need leaders who genuinely listen to us and protect our interests,” Bett declared, underscoring the demand for greater engagement and advocacy on behalf of the youth community.

In response to these concerns, local youths are calling upon the National Youth Council to advocate for their rights during demonstrations. They seek assurance that their voices are heard and their grievances addressed by the authorities.

As Eldoret settles back into its usual rhythm, the aftermath of the protests leaves a lingering call for dialogue between government officials and the public. Citizens hope for a resolution that considers their concerns regarding the finance bill, demonstrating the community’s commitment to active civic engagement and advocacy for their rights.
