Eldoret: Residents Want NHIF Contributions Reduced
A section of Eldoret Residents now wants the government to reduce National Health Insurance Fund Monthly contributions.
They say they cannot afford the Sh 500 due to high poverty levels.
“The medical cover has been of much help until when its payments were raised, we would be treated at a fair price without fishing any cents from our pockets. Due to the high cost of living, we cannot afford the Sh 500 and the government should cut it by half,” said Francis Ng’etich a resident.
Most of the residents have enrolled in NHIF program but the challenge is updating the services due to the current harsh economy.
They further noted that patients with NHIF cards have been rejected by healthcare providers who have been demanding payments in cash.
“Patients have been denied treatments in various hospitals, they have been sent away severally due to no cash. Why should we pay such an amount yet we are denied services,”Ng’etich added.
He further called upon the government to formulate a method that every Kenyan can afford in paying off for health care services.
“We cannot afford to pay for the services rather the government should intervene and help in paying some amount. With the high cost of living most Kenyans will lose their lives since they cannot afford it,” added Ng’etich.
Considering his opinion insurance providers under NHIF should accept credit cards as alternative means of payment.
This comes a week after the national treasury disbursed funds to National Health Insurance Fund.
