Eldoret: School Heads Sending Students Home Warned
School heads have been warned against sending students home for fees.
According to Uasin Gishu Director of Education John Thringi school heads should instead sit down and discuss alternative ways where parents can pay their fees.
“We have asked school heads not to send students home for fees but instead have discussions with parents and agree on when and how they will pay the fees.” said the Uasin Gishu Director of Education.
He says it’s not good to send students especially girls home since they can easily be taken advantage of by men.
“There are other strategies to mobilize resources to pay fees and not to send them at home to collect money for lunches and school fees. Those parents who don’t have money can bring goats, firewood, or anything he has which a teacher can take and put into the student’s fee,” said Thiringi while speaking to the press.
He further warned principals against holding social activities during third term saying it is against the law.
“As a Ministry, we are telling our principals and head teachers that third term there is no social activities that are allowed and anyone who will do contrary will face the full force of the law,” The Uasin Gishu County Director of Education added.
