Eldoret Town Recieves NOD For City Status

The Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations tabled a detailed report to the speaker of the Senate giving a green light to the elevation of Eldoret to a City Status.

The committee observed that among other key indicators, is the ability of the Municipality to adhere to the best practice of management such as planning, organizing, directing and controlling resources towards the achievement of service delivery to its people.

The Municipality of Eldoret has infrastructural facilities including roads, street lighting, an airport and airstrip, fire stations, and adequate capacity for disaster management.

It was also noted that Eldoret can generate sufficient revenue to sustain its operation.

Lastly, the population of Eldoret is also a key indicator as it exceeds the requirement of having at least 250,000 People. Eldoret’s current population is estimated to be at 475,716.

Once the report is adopted, it will be forwarded to The President of the Republic of Kenya for conferment
