Eldoret: Women Living With Disability Applaud NCCK For Doing This
Women living with disabilities in Uasin Gishu County have applauded the National Council of Churches in Kenya(NCCK)with support from Unwomen and partnership with media focus on africa and civil society to include women with disability in increased women participation in peace and security in the county
According to Regina Chumba, people living with disabilities have and continue to be neglected in society therefore stating a need for a change in the narrative.
“It is not new that people living with disabilities face difficulty in search of services as well as inclusion in the programs. It is high time we are recognized in the society and we are given a third of representation in the sectors,” said Chumba.
She stated that even though a small percentage has been represented in the workshop, the step taken to involve PWD’S is a great course therefore affirming to the NCCK to assist in finding other women living with disabilities in the grassroots, involve them, and make them feel recognized.
“As people living with disabilities, we don’t ask for much representation. A third representation is enough for us and we thank all stakeholders for considering a representation of this group. We are equal to the task as other people,” added Chumba.
The chairperson of the civil society organization, Benedine Kipruto applauded the efforts of providing a platform where women could learn and engage on how to deal with matters of leadership stating women are also equal to the task.
“It is a good thing that women now are being included in leadership positions in our country. We are pushing for more women to be recognized as they should,” said Benedine.
The one-week program is expected to officially come to completion on Friday.
