Eldoret:Inua Jamii Program Launched
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale has launched Inua Jamii Program registration exercise.
Speaking during the launch Dr Nyale said the exercise will take one month, calling on the Elderly,orphans,and vulnerable to register in large numbers .
Those who will benefit include elderly aged 70 years and above.
“Today we have officially launched the registration of the elderly,ophans ,PWDs under the program Inua Jamii which is funded by the government. I want to call upon all those who will benefit to take good care of the money and should not use it in making Illicit brew,” said the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner.
He revealed that the funds will be paid monthly before any Civil servant is paid his or her salary.
“In the County we have over 4000 orphans and 650 vulnerable individuals. I want to humbly ask the caregivers to ensure that that they dont squander the money but help those in need, ” he added.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has released over Ksh. 8.36 billion for payment to the beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii Program where each elderly person is set to receive Ksh.8,000.
According to Principal Secretary Joseph Motari, out of the Ksh. 8.36 billion old persons have been allocated KshKsh.5.8 billion, while Ksh.2.1 billion will go to orphans while people living with severe disabilities will get Ksh.302 million.
Moisbridge Ward MCA and Chairman of the Labour and Gender Protection Committee Bishop Patrick Kimeli applauded president William Ruto for coming with such a program.
“We want to thank our able president for restoring dignity to the elderly since most of them have been neglected, don’t have food, while othere living in deplorable conditions . Such fund will help for their upkeep,” he said .
He called upon political and religious leaders to ensure that the exercise is successful.
“Lets help by offering transport to those registering thr elderly so that all the elderly and vulnerable can be registered the grassroots, and those who will benefit from thr funds kindly take good care of it,” Moisbridge Ward MCA added.
He further said that his committee will ensure that thr elderly, vulnerable, orphans and PWDs are taken good care of.
Judith Barasa Social Development Officer urged the elderly to turn up in large numbers for the exercise for the to benefit from cash transfer funds.
“All the elderly aged 70 years and above will be registered except those who are still receiving pension from the government.Enaurw that they have new generation identity cards for registration, ” she added.
