Eldoret:Jua Kali Association Applaud Governor Bii For Doing This
Uasin Gishu County Jua Kali Association has applauded Governor Jonathan Bii for his continued support for the sector, even as preparations for the devolution conference are almost complete.
According to the Eldoret North Jua Kali Sacco chairman, Elijah Kiambati, the move of the county government not to evict them but instead join hands with them to help in the face-lifting of the town was a sound decision and has continued to be appreciated by the mechanics.
“We have seen great improvements and developments in the county ahead of the devolution conference set to take place. The governor has done a commendable job of making the town beautiful. We are happy that our working space is clean and we hope that it will continue being the same even after the devolution conference,” said Kiambati.
The mechanics have pleaded with the County government to set aside a larger working space for them as the space they have is not enough for all the workers.
Governor Chelilim has been beseeched by the Jua Kali traders to make regular visits to the area rather than sending representation for allegations of misrepresentation.
“Our pleas will not be known by word of mouth from the representatives being sent to represent us. Seeing is believing and we know that once the governor makes regular visits to this area, all gaps will be filled and we will live good lives,” added Kiambati.
Richard Opar, the Secretary General Of The Association, applauded the County government for involving the mechanics in the implementation of industrial parks as was in the manifesto of Kenya Kwanza.
The industrial parks aim at creating employment among the jobless youth in the county as well as boosting the economy of the country at large.
“A large population in the Jua Kali sector are the youth. Involving them and providing opportunities for them is commendable as they will be able to make meaning out of their lives,” said Opar.
Additionally, Opar said the association has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Technical and vocational education and training institutions where Jua Kali traders could get a certification of the courses.
“Now, all who wish to go back to school have the chance to. The Skills that we have is good but getting certified will be an added advantage. We extend our appreciation to all TVETS who have agreed to support us in this course,” added Opar.
