Fake Doctor in Kayole Busted for Fabricating Lab Results, Defrauding Patient
James Waweru Njenga, 45, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a medical professional and defrauding a patient in Kayole Phase 1, Nairobi. Njenga operated an unregistered clinic called “Axis Medical Clinic & Lab Services” and reportedly swindled a 31-year-old male victim out of Sh60,000.
The arrest came after the victim filed a complaint with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following a series of consultations with Njenga between March 1st and 27th, 2024. During this period, Njenga, posing as a qualified doctor, charged the victim for fabricated lab tests supposedly conducted at prestigious medical facilities like German Medical Centre, Jubaland Imaging Centre, and Mater Hospital. Based on these bogus results, Njenga then delivered a false diagnosis of a liver ailment.
However, the victim’s health deteriorated despite the prescribed treatment. Seeking a genuine medical opinion, he visited Nairobi West Hospital. A comprehensive examination there revealed no signs of the liver disorder Njenga claimed to have identified.
This prompted the victim to file a complaint, triggering an investigation by DCI detectives. The investigation unraveled Njenga’s web of deceit. Not only were the lab reports presented as evidence demonstrably fake, but the Pharmacy and Poisons Board also confirmed that Njenga lacked both registration as a medical practitioner and a business license to operate a medical clinic.
Armed with this incriminating evidence, Kamukunji detectives apprehended Njenga. He is now facing charges that likely include fraud, impersonation of a medical professional, and operating an unregistered medical facility. This case highlights the dangers of seeking medical attention from unqualified individuals and underscores the importance of verifying a healthcare provider’s credentials before receiving treatment.
