Family Bank Appoints Lazarus Muema as New Board Chairman

Family Bank has announced the appointment of Mr. Lazarus Muema as its new Board Chairman, following the approval of the relevant regulatory authorities. Muema, who has served as a Non-Executive Director on the Family Bank Board since 2017, takes on the new leadership role as the bank continues to enhance its strategic direction and governance framework.

With over 30 years of experience in finance, insurance, and pensions, Mr. Muema brings a wealth of expertise to the position. He has played an instrumental role in various board committees at Family Bank, including the Board Strategy Committee, Board Audit Committee, and the Board Risk Committee.

Muema holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting from the University of Nairobi and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA(K)). His career includes significant leadership positions in major financial institutions, having worked in key roles at Shell, including as Finance Manager at Shell Exploration in Kenya and Uganda, Financial Controller at Kenya Shell, and Finance Advisor at Shell International in London. Additionally, he served as the Pensions Investment and Policy Advisor for Shell Africa.

In addition to his work at Family Bank, Muema is a prominent figure in Kenya’s corporate and financial sectors. He is currently the Chairman of Riscura Solutions (Kenya) Limited and NBCI Limited, and serves on the Board of Kenya Orient Insurance Limited. His past leadership roles include Chairmanship of the Association of Retirement Benefits Schemes of Kenya, Bright Technologies Limited, and Nanga Investments Limited.

As the new Chairman of Family Bank, Mr. Muema is set to provide strategic leadership to further the bank’s vision and growth objectives, while maintaining strong governance practices to ensure its continued success in the competitive financial services landscape.

The appointment of Lazarus Muema is seen as a significant step in strengthening the bank’s governance and positioning it for continued growth in the dynamic banking sector.
