FAO to Pump USD3.3 million to Livestock Farmers in Bungoma

County Bungoma is keen on helping farmers reap maximum benefits from the multi-million livestock feeds sector.

According to governor Ken Lusaka Working with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) his administration intends to facilitate local farmers to start commercialization of animal feeds .

“The project will see FAO pump USD3.3 million (Sh365,700,000.00 ) to an estimated 6500 farmers in the region to engage in the venture. This will make the high cost of animal feeds a thing of the past that has been made worse by the current drought that is being experienced in most parts of the country,” he said.

During a meeting with officials from FAO team led by the Organization’s Head of Agri-business Tito Arunga.

Governor Lusaka said that his administration will also partner with the United Kingdom (UK) to boost Agri-business among farmers in the County.
“The UK government through it’s sustainable Urban Economic development programme (SUED) will partner with us to develop poultry and dairy farming among other sectors.
The partnership also seeks to develop an Industrial Park Webuye support infrastructure,solar refrigeration and creation of a molasses to ethanol plant,” said governor Lusaka after he hosted osted a team from the British Council led by Mike Foster( Economic Counsellor and Head of Section) and John Kashangaki from SUED, during an initial planning meeting for the realization of these key projects.
