In a recent statement, Irungu Nyakera, the Chairman of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) and leader of the Farmers Party, has called on the younger generation, particularly those from Generation Z, to become more politically active.

Nyakera expressed admiration for the political awareness and activism of young people but lamented their historical lack of participation in the electoral process.

“I just love how Gen Z are aware of their rights and where we should be going as a country,” Nyakera said. “The problem is that for every election cycle, young people don’t come out to vote. My prayer is that, come 2027, young people will not only come out to vote but also offer themselves to be elected.”

Nyakera’s appeal is not just a call for voter turnout but also an invitation for young people to join the Farmers Party. The Farmers Party, he explained, is dedicated to advocating for the rights of farmers, who form a significant portion of Kenya’s population and are often overlooked in national policy discussions.

“I also urge them to join Farmers Party, the party of agitating for the rights of our parents, who are mostly farmers. Karibu,” Nyakera added, extending a warm invitation to the youth to be part of the party’s mission.

Nyakera’s comments come as part of a broader effort to energize the electorate and encourage a new generation of leaders to emerge in Kenya’s political landscape. His focus on the Gen Z demographic highlights a strategic push to build a more inclusive and representative political future.

As the 2027 election approaches, Nyakera’s vision includes a significant role for young voters and aspiring leaders, aiming to transform the political environment to better address the needs and concerns of all Kenyans.
