Farmers Urged to Adopt New Technologies in Agriculture
Kesses Member Of Parliament Julius Ruto has urged farmers to adopt new technologies in agriculture.
He says this will enable the production of high-quality drought-resistant crops and high breeds of livestock.
“I call upon all farmers countrywide to visit us at Eldoret Agricultural Show to learn new ways of improving agriculture and production of drought-resistant crops,” said the area MP after he officially graced the opening of this year’s Eldoret National Agricultural Society of Kenya Show at Eldoret Showground.
The Kesses legislator further called on schools across the country to allow students to attend the show for them to explore new things and acquire knowledge on different sectors that will be showcased.
“ I urge schools heads to allow their students to attend the Eldoret Agricultural show, for them to gain knowledge on various aspects of life,” said Ruto.
He said due to adverse climatic conditions and the changing weather pattern being experienced in the country he urged farmers to embrace crop diversification which will secure and improve food security in our country.
Edward Sawe the County Executive Committee member (CEC) Agriculture in Uasingishu county urged farmers to use subsidized fertilizer and minimize the use of Di-ammonium Phosphate( DAP) which increases the acidity of the soil.
He said this will help in the fight against hunger that has been experienced in the country.
“Our aim is to ensure we get rid of hunger calamity which has been the order of the day. We have supplied subsidized fertilizer to farmers to increase food production in the country,” said Sawe.
The vice chairperson in charge of Agriculture at the Eldoret Show, Silas Maiyo said the show has attracted over 150 exhibitors with a host of new technologies and innovations in agriculture.
He asked farmers to visit agricultural stalls to purchase the best quality seeds that will produce high yields.
“Many farmers are yearning for quality seeds, I urge them to acquire the seeds from our exhibitors who will be present throughout the show,” said Maiyo.
He further noted that the grand opening of the show will be on Friday 3rd March 2023 and will be graced by President William Ruto among other top dignitaries.
