Farmers Urged to Embrace Organic Farming- GPC Organic fertilizer Expert
With the effects of climate change being witnessed all over the world, farmers hailing from Uasin Gishu County have been urged to embrace organic farming.
Speaking during the University of Eldoret Agribusiness trade Fair 2022 Churchill Kavoli from GPC Organic fertilizer said this has been proven to have no effects on the climate, crops, and soil used in planting.
He said that organic farming has a better yield as compared to other modes of farming.
“The other day we heard our president while speaking at the UN talk of climate change and we urge farmers to embrace organic farming which does not affect climate, the soil used, and crops being cultivated. Matters yield, it is the best,” said Kavole Churchill.
He said organic farming also maintains environmental health by reducing the level of pollution, reduces human and animal health hazards by reducing the level of residues in the product.
“It also helps in keeping agricultural production to a higher level and makes it sustainable, reduces the cost of agricultural production and also improves the soil health, it also ensures optimum utilization of natural resources for short-term benefits and helps in conserving them for future generation,” he said.
Recommending a range of products that can be used in the country, Golden Power Crops is among other companies advocating farmers to switch to this mode.
“For now we have one kind of fertilizer, GPC organic fertilizer which is an all-purpose fertilizer that can be used in planting and top dressing. It is available in all parts of the country and we have seen the results and gotten positive feedback from the farmers who have used this product,” added Churchill.
Its effectiveness and cost benefits have been highlighted as some of the benefits to farmers that have been using this product.
“The advantage of GPC fertilizer is cost-effective; it is very cheap to the small farmers because a bag of 25kgs retails at 1700 and is available at all the national cereals board countrywide and it reduces the level of acidity in the soil, unlike other fertilizers that have been previously used,” noted Churchill.
“There are no synthetic pesticides linked to lymphoma and leukemia, no roundup herbicides linked to kidney disease, breast cancer, and birth defects, there are no ingredients laced with residues from neurotoxin Hexane, there is no sewage sludge, human waste contained with endocrine disruptors and heavy metals among others,” he added.
The fertilizer also stimulates root growth, reduces transplant shock, and improves soil structure where less fertilizer is required.
Farmers have been urged to visit the National Cereals Board to access this product as they are available at an affordable price.
