It is important for children and learners to be equipped with skills and knowledge of what to do in case an incident occurs, it is for this reason, Uasin Gishu fire department has expressed its commitment to continue partnering with all stakeholders to train on emergency-related matters.

Uasin Gishu Chief Fire Officer David Wanyama Sitati says, through the training they want both learners, teachers and community members to acquire crucial skills in First Aid, Post Trauma Stress Management, Disaster Preparedness and Response, Water Rescue, Fire Prevention and Safety, search and rescue among others.

“The program had been put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are now ready to resume the training in schools to equip learners with knowledge and skills,” Sitati said.

Sitati added that the idea is that if such incidents were to happen, everyone would know how to act or what to do without being threatened during an emergency.

He noted that it’s important for all schools to have health and safety guidelines and every student should be taken through the training.

“Regular sensitization should be done to ensure that the students, teachers, staff and other stakeholders know what to do in case of an emergency,” Sitati emphasised.
