First Lady Launches Malezi Bora Initiative in Kakamega County
Kakamega First Lady Prof. Janet Kassily Barasa Monday led senior Government officers in launching “Malezi Bora” initiative aimed at accelerating the uptake of mother-child health and nutrition services in the County’s health sector, an event that was held at Kivaywa Primary School, Chevaywa Ward in Lugari Sub-County.
The initiative is a strategy where both the health care practitioners and members of the community work closely together to ensure that children and their mothers get the necessary care for a healthy start in life.
The integrated launch marks the beginning of a one week Countywide issuance of Vitamin A supplements, deworming and immunization to children as well as vaccination of girls against HPV; by health workers assisted by Community Health Promoters and nutrition Champions.
Accompanying the First Lady were Chief Officers, Advisors and Partners led by USAID’s Boresha Jamii and Advancing Nutrition, Hellen Keller International, World Vision and OGRA Foundation.
