First Lady Rachel Ruto Meets Kenya Girl Guides Association Officials
Kenya’s first lady Rachel Ruto met the members of the Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA), officials at the state house.
She says meeting them took her back to where her lifelong lesson started.
“Most of the virtues I adopted early in life, that I still practice, are attributed to my association with the Girl Guides. During my school days, I was a Girl Scout and it taught me the value of teamwork and community service,” said the first lady.
KGGA is the largest and oldest girls’ only association in Kenya.
“The team, on behalf of the countrywide and global movement, extended their invitation to have me Patronise the KGGA as has been the custom and responsibility of the Office of the First Lady, a call I took up with lots of humility,” she added.
She says her new responsibility comes at a time when the KGGA is celebrating its centenary; 100 years of existence and service provision in Kenya.
“There’s no other time that we are called upon to unite for community service as now. I urged the Guides to be the light and leaders of Change in their communities for that is the motto of the Girl Guides; Be Prepared – to Serve,” she said.
