Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Criticizes Wasteful Use of Public Resources
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised concerns about the inefficient use of public resources by the National Intelligence Service (NIS). In a statement issued today, Gachagua criticized the deployment of a vehicle and an officer who followed him from Nairobi to Makueni, calling the move “pointless” and a waste of fuel and man hours.
Gachagua, who was in Makueni for a series of engagements, argued that such actions unnecessarily drain public funds. “It would have been far more effective for NIS officers to remain in Makueni, listen to what I am saying, record it, and send the relevant information directly to you,” he said. “Instead, we have seen a pointless exercise of deploying personnel and resources to follow us on a long journey across the country.”
The former deputy president emphasized the importance of prudent use of taxpayer money, particularly in a time when efficient governance is key to national development. “We must ensure that every resource, whether human or financial, is used to enhance the security and well-being of our nation. Wasting public funds in such a manner only undermines the trust and confidence that citizens have in the government’s institutions.”
Gachagua’s remarks underscore a growing concern over how state resources are allocated and used, with calls for increased transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. He also urged the NIS to focus on more productive tasks that directly contribute to the security and prosperity of the nation.
The former deputy president’s statement has sparked debate on the efficiency of government operations and the need for a more targeted approach to security and public service.
As of now, there has been no official response from the National Intelligence Service regarding Gachagua’s comments.
