Former NACADA Chairman John Mututho Condemns George Wajakoya’s Advocacy for Cannabis Use, Labels it a National Crisis
Former Chairman of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), John Mututho, has publicly rebuked former presidential aspirant George Wajakoya for his advocacy of cannabis use in Kenya, citing its detrimental impact on the nation’s youth.
Addressing the media in Eldoret, Mututho condemned Wajakoya’s endorsement of cannabis sativa, attributing it to the proliferation of the substance among Kenyan youth and the subsequent rise in cases of substance abuse.
Mututho underscored the severity of the situation, describing it as a national crisis. He emphasized the alarming statistic that approximately 20 out of every 70 deaths in the country are linked to drug and substance abuse, highlighting the urgent need for decisive action.
In a poignant comparison, Mututho drew attention to the devastating toll of drug abuse by stating, “We are losing more people to drugs and substance abuse as a nation than casualties of war in countries such as Israel and Palestine.” His words painted a grim picture of the magnitude of the problem facing Kenya.
Mututho’s remarks served as a clarion call for collective action to address the growing threat posed by drug abuse in the country. He urged stakeholders to unite in the fight against substance abuse, emphasizing the importance of education, awareness, and stringent enforcement of anti-drug policies.
As Kenya grapples with the escalating challenge of substance abuse, Mututho’s outspoken condemnation of cannabis advocacy highlights the urgency of prioritizing efforts to safeguard the well-being and future of the nation’s youth.
