Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, Hon. Salim Mvurya, today laid the foundation stone for the Eldoret Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Langas, Kapseret Constituency. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to advance its manufacturing and industrialization goals under the Kenya Kwanza Manifesto.

The Eldoret EPZ is projected to generate over 3,000 direct jobs and numerous indirect employment opportunities once it is fully operational. The zone will focus on agro-processing and textile value chains, tapping into Eldoret’s new city status as a strategic hub for agricultural products such as avocados, passion fruits, and oranges. This development is expected to create opportunities for value addition and stimulate economic growth in the region.

During the event, Hon. Mvurya was joined by Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, State Department for Industry PS Dr. Juma Mukwana, State Department for Investment Promotion PS Abubakar Hassan, and other local leaders. The collaboration among these officials underscores a unified commitment to driving local economic development.

In addition to the EPZ, Hon. Mvurya inspected the ongoing construction of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) in Moiben Constituency. This vital project aims to enhance value addition for local produce and is expected to create over 4,500 direct and indirect jobs upon completion.

The County Aggregation Park will focus on aggregating and adding value to key local crops, including maize, wheat, potatoes, and avocados. By establishing strong backward linkages, the park aims to provide local farmers with improved market access and significant opportunities for economic advancement.

As part of the ongoing efforts to promote investment, Hon. Mvurya urged the county leadership, led by H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii, to engage in investment discussions with the Principal Secretaries of Investment Promotion and Industry. This initiative aims to raise awareness among local farmers and entrepreneurs about the investment guidelines and opportunities available as these transformative projects progress.

With the establishment of the Eldoret EPZ and the County Aggregation Park, Uasin Gishu County is poised to become a key player in Kenya’s agricultural and industrial landscape, driving job creation and economic growth in the region.
