TransNzoia Governor George Natembeya today announced a significant partnership with the Ministry of Health aimed at enhancing healthcare access for county residents. The collaboration, which will kick off next month, involves a 30-day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) focused on registering residents for the Social Health Authority (SHA) services.

Speaking at his office this afternoon, Governor Natembeya expressed optimism about the program’s potential to reach a wide range of residents and ensure that more people have access to essential health services. “I am pleased to announce our partnership with the Ministry of Health for this critical initiative. Starting mid-next month, we will be working hand in hand to register as many residents as possible for SHA services, a key step in improving the overall healthcare system in TransNzoia County,” Natembeya said.

The initiative, guided by the Ministry of Health, aims to enhance the registration of residents into the Social Health Authority system, which provides affordable and accessible healthcare for all. This partnership underscores the county government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and efficiency.

In addition to the registration initiative, Governor Natembeya also highlighted recent efforts to boost the region’s healthcare infrastructure. The national government has allocated Ksh. 50 million to equip the Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, further strengthening TransNzoia’s healthcare capacity. “This funding will allow us to enhance the services at Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, ensuring it continues to serve the people of TransNzoia and beyond with high-quality care,” he added.

The Governor also shared plans to renovate the County Level 4 Hospital, which will see the restoration of crucial services, including the establishment of a regional laboratory, an eye unit, and a cancer center. He noted that once these renovations are completed, certain services would be decentralized to make healthcare more accessible to residents across the county.

“I am excited about the ongoing developments in our health sector. These projects will play a vital role in improving the quality of healthcare services for our people,” Natembeya said.

Earlier today, Governor Natembeya had the opportunity to discuss these health initiatives with the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Debra Barasa, who visited him at his office. The two leaders discussed the importance of strengthening healthcare services in TransNzoia and affirmed their shared commitment to improving the health and well-being of county residents.

Governor Natembeya concluded his statement by emphasizing that the ongoing investments in healthcare are a critical part of his administration’s plan to ensure that every resident has access to affordable, quality health services.
