Uasin Gishu Women Representative, Gladys Boss Shollei, has strongly criticized Catholic bishops for their recent press conference in which they condemned President William Ruto’s administration over issues such as killings, high taxes, and rampant corruption.

Speaking at the *Wezesha Biashara* event hosted by ABSA Bank at Eka Hotel in Eldoret City on Thursday, Shollei expressed her disappointment over the bishops’ remarks, calling the statement “heartbreaking.”

“I was very disappointed, in fact heartbroken, when I listened to the Catholic bishops speaking yesterday,” Shollei said. “The jobs of the bishops are spiritual work. Let them leave the business of running the country to those tasked to do so,” she added.

The Uasin Gishu Women Rep emphasized the separation of powers within government, highlighting that each arm of government has a distinct role. “The president was elected to run the country, the cabinet was appointed to support the president, parliament has its role of oversight, and the county governments are tasked with bringing development to the grassroots level,” she stated.

Shollei also urged the bishops to provide concrete evidence regarding the abduction of Kenyans, referencing recent concerns raised by various leaders, including those from the Azimio coalition.

The bishops’ remarks came a day after opposition leaders, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accused the government of failing to compensate families who lost loved ones during recent protests, allegedly due to police brutality.

Shollei’s comments add to the growing tension between political leaders and the clergy over the role of the church in national governance and the handling of public affairs.
