Government and Private Sector Rally to Support Flood Victims in Westlands Constituency
Today, at the handover ceremony in Westlands Constituency, Hon. Rebecca Miano, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry, expressed her deepest sympathies to the residents affected by the recent floods. The heavy rains, attributed to climate change, have disrupted weather patterns, resulting in devastating floods across villages.
In her address, Hon. Miano commended the resilience and cooperation of the affected residents with the authorities during this challenging time. She highlighted the comprehensive mobilization plan led by President William Ruto’s government, emphasizing the evacuation of affected individuals and the provision of material and moral support.
The Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry, under Hon. Miano’s leadership, mobilized resources to support the flood victims. Representatives from various departments and agencies within the ministry, including ACA, EAPC, and KEBS, joined her to donate 11,813 packs of essential items. These donations included beddings, assorted foodstuffs, and essential items like toiletries and drinking water.
The donated items were handed over to Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, the MP for Westlands, and the County administration for distribution to those in dire need. Hon. Miano expressed gratitude to all ministry staff who contributed to this cause and appealed to private sector entities and the community to step forward and support the flood victims.
The call to action emphasized the Kenyan proverb, “Kutoa ni moyo” (to give is from the heart), highlighting that even small contributions can make a significant difference in alleviating someone’s discomfort. The ceremony concluded with a unified message of standing together, considering the interests of others, and extending a helping hand to those in need.
