Government Bans Birth Certificatesin Issuance of ID Cards
The national government has, with immediate effect, banned birth certificates in issuance of Identity Cards. The move has earned the wrath of residents of Teso South Sub County.
Addressing mourners during the burial of Mama Respa Aiti Ogola, step- mother to former Member of Parliament Teso South Constituency, Geoffrey Ogola at Aciit village in Asinge Location, Ngelechom Assistant Chief, Michael Ekeya said only birth notifications and clinic cards will be recognized.
” The government has decided to discard birth cetificates in the issuance of ID Cards. Cases of foreigners using birth certificates to obtain Kenyan IDs have been cited, forcing the government to discard birth certificates,” he said.
Ekeya also announced new charges the government has introduced, a move that mourners in attendance didn’t receive well, noting that they are strained economically.
The assistant chief said the new charges for the new ID applications which have been zero-rated have been pegged at Ksh300. Replacement of IDs has been increased from Ksh100 to Ksh1000 with effect from 1st March, 2024, while issuance of birth certificates has increased from Ksh150 to Ksh500.
A retired teacher, Dismas Etyang, thanked Teso South MP Mary Emaase for restoring sanity at St Francis of Asiis Asinge Secondary School by increasing the student population at the learning institution.
” Asinge Secondary had only a student population of 46 due to witch-hunt by those who didn’t want the progress of the school, but the MP introduced sponsorship that the number increase to 290,” he said.
Etyang thanked the MP for the kind gesture, urging other leaders to emulate that magnificent feat. He also urged parents to monitor their children, urging them to love the school, teachers, and students.
The Faith Church presided over by Pastor John Paul, intervened by offering special prayers to the late Alfred Ogola and the late Mama Respa family to end the simmering squabbles among family members.
Twin brothers Richard Ogola and Thomas Emodo apologised before Pastor John Paul that culminated in wild celebrations from family members who cheered that historic breakthrough.
