Governor Bii’s Administration Keen on Youth Empowerment
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has expanded youth empowerment with all departments required to adhere to the (Youth) Access to Government Procurement Opportunities.
The County under the leadership of Governor Jonathan Bii and guided by 5th Nguzo, is focused on ensuring that Uasin Gishu youth are empowered through, among other ways, AGPO tendering.
While gracing the Northrift Youth Leagues Consultative and Strategy Forum on Thursday, County Executive for Youth Affairs, Eng Lucy Ng’endo said the County Government has strategies to bolster youth empowerment.
“H.E. The Governor has put up frameworks for all departments to ensure that at least 30 per cent of government procurement opportunities are given to the youth, women and persons with disabilities,” said Eng Ng’endo in the forum held in Eldoret.
This means that when a department like Environment has a tree planting campaign in Moiben, youth groups in the county are given the contract to supply tree seedlings.
The county executive also highlighted several other programs geared at empowering the youth, including the Uasin Gishu County Youth Service Policy. This is a detailed framework that will guide links to employment, skills database, training and contracting youth in government programs.
Also, Eng Lucy Ng’endo said: “The internet connectivity program in the ward, sub-county offices, and ICT centres, is fundamentally meant to assist the youth access job opportunities like online essay writing that are available on the internet.”
Eng Ng’endo also said the Department has provided sports equipment like balls, nets and boots, business equipment such as car wash machines, water tanks, generators and motorbikes. All these in a program to empower and ensure youth can grow their businesses and attain economic stability in the long run.
