Government Committed To Eradicate Child Labour – DG Mbatiany.

Bungoma Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany has expressed the governments committment towards eradication of child labour.

Speaking at Kanduyi D.EB Primary School where she graced the World Day Against Child Labour, Mbatiany called on the residents to join the government in fighting the vice expressing their administration’s commitment towards eradicating it.

The Deputy County boss called on the residents consider other ways of getting additional income to support child education like the ‘Fuga Kuku Initiative’ aimed at fighting poverty which she said is one of the main contributors of the vice.

“Poverty is one of the main contributors of Child Labour, lets adopt other strategies like the ‘Fuga Kuku Program’ to win this fight,” said Mbatiany.

She further called on the parents to protect their children from exploitation stating the first step towards winning the fight is taking personal initiatives as parents.

“As parents lets be at the fore front fighting for the rights of our children, lets not allow our children be employed as housegirls and shamba boys for monetary gains,” pleaded Mbatiany.

She also called for collaboration between the two levels of government; National and County, in ensuring the perpetuators of the vice are hold into account.

Deputy Labour Commissioner Bonaya Kase, International Labour Organisation (ILO) representative Grace Banya and other National and County officials were present.
