Governor Bii Applauds Progress in Fertilizer Subsidy Program, Supports Wheat Import Suspension
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has announced that the county’s collaboration with the national government on the fertilizer subsidy program is progressing well, ensuring that local farmers are adequately prepared for the next planting season.
During a visit to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and Kenya Seed facilities today, Governor Bii confirmed that the stores are well-stocked and ready to distribute subsidized fertilizer to farmers. Beginning next week, farmers will receive e-subsidy vouchers to access the fertilizer at the designated outlets, marking a significant step in supporting local agriculture.
Governor Bii also highlighted the crucial role played by the county’s six last-mile stores in making the subsidized fertilizer more accessible to farmers. These stores will ensure that fertilizer is distributed efficiently and conveniently across the county, especially in remote areas.
Additionally, Governor Bii expressed strong support for the Ministry of Agriculture’s decision to suspend wheat imports until all local produce is purchased. This move, he said, will help secure better prices for Uasin Gishu farmers, boosting their incomes and contributing to the growth of the local agricultural sector.
“We are committed to supporting our farmers and ensuring that they receive the right resources at the right time,” said Governor Bii. “The fertilizer subsidy program and the suspension of wheat imports are steps in the right direction for the benefit of our hardworking farmers.”
The Governor was accompanied during the visit by Agriculture Principal Secretary Dr. Paul Rono, Bungoma Governor Hon. Ken Lusaka, and Members of Parliament Prof. Phyllis Bartoo (Moiben) and Hon. David Kiplagat (Soy). Together, they underscored the importance of teamwork between the national government, county governments, and other stakeholders in promoting sustainable agriculture and improving the livelihoods of farmers.
Governor Bii reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring Uasin Gishu remains a key player in Kenya’s agricultural sector.
