Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii has addressed ongoing delays at the MoiSoy maize milling plant, emphasizing its critical role in supporting local farmers and enhancing value addition in the agricultural sector.

Originally launched in 2019 as a one-year initiative, the plant has encountered significant setbacks, prompting increasing scrutiny from the Senate.

In a statement following a recent visit by the Senate Public Investment and Special Funds Committee, led by Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Governor Bii expressed optimism about the Senate’s commitment to resolving the plant’s issues. The visit allowed legislators to assess the current state of the facility and make recommendations aimed at expediting its operationalization.

“The operationalization of the MoiSoy plant is vital for our maize farmers,” Bii stated. “Our Nguzo Kumi blueprint prioritizes this project, and we are determined to ensure that our farmers reap the benefits of their investments.”

He welcomed the Senate’s directive to the Office of the Auditor General to investigate the Ksh 285 million allocated to the primary cooperative, highlighting it as a necessary measure to ensure accountability and value for money.

Governor Bii also pointed out that other key projects, including the Ziwa Hospital and the 64 Stadium, are facing similar challenges. He urged the Senate to consider site visits to these projects to gain firsthand insight into the barriers impeding their progress.

“We are fully committed to resolving these challenges,” he said. “Our farmers deserve the full value of their hard work, and we must ensure that our development projects are completed efficiently and effectively.”

As discussions continue, the administration remains focused on fostering an environment conducive to agricultural growth and development in Uasin Gishu County.
