Governor Bii Chelilim Marks 97th Cultural Festival in Uasin Gishu
His Excellency Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim today graced the 97th Cultural Festival at Home Craft, where over 50 participants from various communities came together to showcase their rich cultural heritage. The event, which celebrates the diversity and unity of the county, highlighted the traditions, music, dance, and crafts that make Uasin Gishu a unique and vibrant region.
Speaking to the gathering, Governor Chelilim emphasized the importance of cultural diversity, noting that the festival serves as a powerful reminder of the shared identity and values that unite the people of Uasin Gishu. “This festival is a celebration of the diversity that makes our county unique. It is also a powerful reminder of the strength we draw from our shared identity and values,” he stated.
The Governor highlighted that Uasin Gishu is one of the fastest-growing counties in Kenya, driven by the creativity, hard work, and resilience of its people. He urged residents to continue embracing their cultural differences as a strength and to work towards an inclusive and prosperous future. “With the rapid urbanization we are witnessing, it is vital that we continue embracing the diversity of our communities as we build a prosperous and inclusive future,” he said.
This year’s festival theme, “Our Culture, Our Wealth,” resonated deeply with the Governor, who noted that culture is not just an integral part of the community’s identity but also a valuable resource that drives economic prosperity. He pointed to cultural tourism as a prime example, with the county’s unique traditions attracting visitors and boosting local trade and international recognition.
Governor Chelilim commended the people of Uasin Gishu for living in peace and harmony, despite their differences. He encouraged further intercommunity dialogues and collaborations, which he believes will continue to enrich the county’s shared culture and strengthen social bonds.
The Governor also announced several county initiatives aimed at supporting cultural development. These include programs to support cultural groups, workshops, and platforms for young people to showcase their talents. He further revealed plans to establish cultural hubs and centers to preserve and celebrate Uasin Gishu’s diverse traditions for future generations.
