Governor Bii Declares War Against Illicit Brew
The County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board has recorded a huge success in a multi-agency fight against the production, distribution, and sale of illicit brew and drugs in all six Sub counties.
In the multi-agency approach, the County has destroyed over 5550 litres of kangara, confiscated over 650 liters of Changaa, and nabbed over 200 roles of bhang.
Speaking in Ziwa township, Governor Bii noted the great significance of his administration is commitment to protecting the livelihoods of the residents by curbing the Alcoholic and drug menace because they have put up plans to see that they empower rehabilitates and brewers to avoid relapse.
“We have put up plans to see that the brewers and reformed brewers are empowered economically to avoid the relapse in the future due to sustainable sources of income,” says the County Boss.
However, the County has been conducting a multi-agency operation that is being led by ADCB Director, Koiya Arap Maiyo and supported by Kenya Police Service, Deputy County Commissioners, Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs, village elders and Nyumba Kumi elders conducted operations across the sub-counties.
In a well-coordinated teamwork, the operation team covered Kapngetuny and Ainabkoi center in Ainabkoi Sub County,D Block and Jasho farm in Kapseret Sub-county Kaptuli, Kapkei, Kimoning and Kabomoi in Moiben Sub County, Chelabal, Bayete, Chesunet in Kesses Sub County, Kamagut, Longisa, Jua Kali in Turbo Sub County and Vumilia, Jabali, Lemoru and Moi’s Bridge in Soy Sub counties.
According to Uasin Gishu Director of Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board Koiya Arap Maiyo, 200 rolls of bhang were confiscated in Kambi Bibi, Moi’s Bridge and 26 suspects were arraigned in court for various offences.
He further put on notice those entertainment joints near residential and Public Institutions.
This is after the public outcry of such joints disrupting their day-to-day activities due to their loud noises.
“I want to put on notice bars near residential areas and public institutions that they risk closure since it is against the law. Concerns about the clubs being less than 300m away from people are growing and we will intervene,” said Arap Maiyo.
