Governor Bii Hosts Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka to Discuss Agricultural Initiatives
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii recently hosted Bungoma Governor Hon. Ken Lusaka, who also serves as the Chair of Agriculture at the Council of Governors. The meeting focused on strategies to boost agricultural productivity, empower farmers, and ensure food security across the counties of Kenya.
During the discussions, both governors emphasized the critical role of agriculture in driving economic growth and addressing food insecurity in the country. Governor Lusaka shared insights into ongoing initiatives under the Council of Governors aimed at improving agricultural practices, enhancing value chains, and increasing investments in the sector.
“The agricultural sector is the backbone of our economy. By empowering farmers with the right tools, training, and resources, we can ensure sustainable food production and improve livelihoods across the country,” Governor Lusaka stated.
Governor Jonathan Bii reiterated the importance of collaboration between counties to address challenges such as climate change, pests, and market access, which continue to hinder farmers’ productivity.
“We must work together as counties to share best practices and resources. The future of food security lies in our ability to support our farmers and create an environment conducive for agricultural growth,” Governor Bii said.
The two leaders also discussed plans to strengthen farmer cooperatives, improve agricultural infrastructure, and introduce modern technologies that will increase yields and reduce post-harvest losses.
As the agricultural sector faces growing demands due to population growth and climate unpredictability, both governors expressed their commitment to advocating for policies that support the long-term development of farming communities.
Governor Lusaka concluded by stressing that a united front in addressing these agricultural challenges would go a long way in ensuring that Kenya achieves its food security goals. The collaboration between Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties is expected to be an important part of these efforts.
The meeting underscores the governors’ determination to make agriculture a key driver of sustainable development, improving the lives of farmers and ensuring a stable food supply for the country.
