Uasin Gishu Governor, Jonathan Bii, today hosted the Senate Standing Committee on Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) led by its Chairperson, Hon. Allan Chesang, during a fact-finding mission to assess the county’s revenue streams.

The committee’s visit aimed to evaluate the county’s progress in enhancing its own-source revenue collection, a key area of focus for Governor Bii’s administration. The governor expressed his pride in the strides made by Uasin Gishu in improving its revenue systems and ensuring greater financial independence for the county.

“Today’s visit by the Senate Standing Committee on ICT has been an important opportunity to showcase the tremendous progress we have made in boosting our local revenue generation,” Governor Bii stated. “We are steadfast in our commitment to enhancing our own-source revenue collection, and we are seeing positive results from the hard work and innovations implemented within our financial systems.”

The governor highlighted that the county has introduced various measures aimed at streamlining revenue collection, including the integration of technology to make the process more efficient, transparent, and accessible to residents. This has led to increased compliance, improved tracking, and a more accountable revenue system.

Hon. Allan Chesang, Chairperson of the Senate Committee, commended Uasin Gishu’s efforts in revenue mobilization, noting that the county has made impressive strides in recent years. “Uasin Gishu’s progress in own-source revenue collection is a model that other counties can learn from,” said Hon. Chesang. “The county’s commitment to transparency and efficient resource management is evident, and we look forward to further supporting these efforts at the national level.”

Governor Bii also emphasized the importance of continued investment in technology and capacity building to sustain and accelerate this upward trend in revenue collection. He reiterated that the county government’s focus on financial autonomy is critical for achieving long-term development goals and reducing dependency on national government transfers.

“We are determined to ensure that Uasin Gishu becomes a beacon of self-sustaining growth in Kenya, where our revenue systems support and drive our development agenda,” Governor Bii added.

The Senate Committee’s visit was seen as a significant step in reinforcing the partnership between national and county governments in strengthening local economies. The county’s success in boosting its own-source revenue was celebrated as a positive example of effective governance and fiscal responsibility.
